As a longtime local resident, business owner, and someone who cares about our community, I have a favor to ask of my fellow citizens. Will you please re-elect Michele Jenkins to the College of the Canyons Board of Trustees?

Yes, I have a vested interest in maintaining the vitality and quality of life of the community I love. The Santa Clarita Valley is an exceptionally appealing place to live and work, and one of the reasons for that is College of the Canyons. It is one of our most valuable assets, providing university-grade academic programs and cutting-edge training for businesses and the workforce – all at an affordable cost. It provides opportunities for people from all walks of life to invest a little time and some work to achieve their dreams.

College of the Canyons is a veritable dream factory, but it didn’t achieve that distinction by accident.

It became so because of the vision, deliberate planning, tough decisions, hard work, and leadership of people like Michele Jenkins. She has spent the past 36 years fashioning our community college into an institution we can be proud of, an institution that consistently redefines what a community college can be, and an institution that is, quite frankly, the envy of many other communities throughout California and across the country.

Michele Jenkins has been a consistent driving force behind College of the Canyons. She is compassionate and approachable. She listens to what people have to say. She has the courage to make difficult decisions. She puts students first, and she supports faculty and staff. And, she keeps her promises.

She has delivered on the promises of building the educational infrastructure that we need now and in the future. The Canyon Country Campus, the University Center and the Institute for Culinary Education come to mind as some of the more recent examples. She has always provided rigorous and transparent fiscal oversight, a demonstrated commitment to student success, and an unfailing ability to never lose sight of the things that matter most.

I believe it is vitally important that Michele Jenkins be allowed to continue providing leadership to our community’s college, especially now during these challenging times. I ask you to join me in voting for Michele Jenkins, Santa Clarita Community College District Board of Trustees, Trustee Area 4 on November 3.

Thank you.
