The Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs (ALADS), the largest association of deputy sheriffs and district attorney investigators in the nation, has endorsed Michele Jenkins for re-election to the College of the Canyons Board of Trustees.
ALADS, which represents more than 8,000 sworn law enforcement officers, endorsed Jenkins on Sept. 22.
ALADS was formed in 1970 by 10 deputies who joined together to collectively resolve a dispute. Their effort grew quickly because there was a need for a new and separate association for deputy sheriffs. Prior to 1970, there was no association controlled by, and operated for, rank-and-file deputies. The association later expanded to include district attorney investigators and deputy marshals, many of whom were former deputy sheriffs.
